3 Tips For Making Your Bathroom Safe For Young Children

When you have young children, everything in your home could be a potential danger for them. Knowing this, it’s up to you to find ways that you can ensure that your home is a safe place for your children to live and play. And while children shouldn’t really be playing in the bathroom, when they are in this space, it’s vital that they’re kept safe.

To help you learn how this can best be done, here are three tips for making your bathroom safe for young children.

Take Steps To Prevent Slips And Falls

In the bathroom, spilled water is bound to happen. But when water is on slippery surfaces, it’s easy for anyone to slip and fall, especially young kids that may not be too steady on their feet as it is. But luckily, there are things that you can do to help keep your kids on their feet even if there’s water on the ground or other slippery surfaces in your bathroom.

On the ground, it’s best to have no-slip rugs on the ground so that when your kids step on the floor, they aren’t stepping directly on water that’s on the slippery flooring surface. And in your tub or shower, you may want to choose smaller tiles with a lot of grout in between them so that there’s more grip on the ground to help their small feet not solely be on slippery flooring.

Teach Safety Around Water Taps

While water on the floor of the bathroom can be dangerous, playing with water in other ways can also be hazardous for your kids.

As a good rule of thumb, you should teach your kids not to touch the taps, especially when they’re in the bath or shower, as the water temperature getting too hot or too cold can be dangerous. Additionally, when it comes to the actual water temperature, you’ll want to turn down the temperature on your hot water heater so that, even if your kids do touch the taps when they shouldn’t, they can’t turn the water too hot to scald them.

Keep Dangerous Items Locked Up

There are all kinds of dangerous items that most people keep in the bathroom. And while these could be safe for most people, if your little kids get a hold of them, they could be hazardous for them.

With this in mind, you’re going to want to keep dangerous items locked up and put away from reach by your kids. Medicines, cleaners, and more should be kept locked away where your kids can’t get access to them. You can also lock your toilet so that your kids can’t get into it as well.

If you want your bathroom to be a safe place for your young kids to be, consider implementing the tips mentioned above.
